Nomads accused of ‘abduction’

Silver Strikers have reported Be Forward Wanderers to police for allegedly abducting Under-20 national team midfielder Chikondi Kamanga from the Central Bankers’ camp in Lilongwe on Saturday.

The Nomads loaned out Kamanga to Ntopwa FC last season after promoting him from their reserve side, but it is not clear whether he still has a contract with Wanderers.

Kamanga was set to be offered a contract by the Central Bankers after impressing coach Dan Kabwe in a trial match against Sable Farming FC earlier on in the day.

Confirming the development, Silver board chairperson Victor Madhlopa said: “Chikondi was abducted last [Saturday] night from our hostels [by alleged Wanderers fans]

soon after our strength-testing match with Sable Farming.

“We reported the matter of the abduction and hostage to the police.”

However, Nomads general secretary Victor Maunde yesterday denied the abduction allegations.

“He [Chikondi] is our player. We loaned him out to Ntopwa FC last season which has since expired

“On Wednesday, we heard that he had travelled to Lilongwe where he trained with Silver Strikers and on Saturday, we got a tip off that they were planning to sign him.

“That is when we went there to pick him up. Of course, he had some grievances which we are trying to sort out with his father [former Flames defender Laurent Kamanga]. As I am talking to you now, we are on our way to meet his father,” he said.

The player was not available for comment, but his father yesterday said he was not aware of his son’s whereabouts.

“I am very disappointed with what is happenning. Up to now, I don’t know where my son is and I cannot reach him on his mobile phone.

“I am actually on my way to report a missing person to Limbe Police Station,” said Laurent.

Lilongwe Police Station spokesperson Joseph Kachikho asked for more time to get details on the matter.

Apart from Kamanga, last season the Nomads also loaned out Richard Rabson to Ntopwa FC while Wisdom Mpinganjira was loaned out to lower league side Hangover FC.
